How to Detect Hidden Keyloggers

Intro : Keyloggers nefariously record every character you type and can even email the results. Some keyloggers even take screenshots and record mouse movements. These programs seriously degrade your security by broadcasting your usernames, passwords, personal letters, account numbers or absolutely anything you type. Detecting them can be quite challenging, but with a few simple steps, you can gain peace of mind knowing you are safe from these insidious programs. 

Instructions 

1 - Click "Start," type "Task Manager" and click on "View running processes with Task Manager." Look through the list under the "Processes" tab. This can be tricky, because the list is already difficult for a non-technically-inclined person to understand and the keylogger doesn't want to be found. If you see anything obviously out of place, that could be a keylogger or other spyware. You can Google the names to help identify processes. If you cannot tell, then proceed through the steps.

2  - Press the Windows key and "R" simultaneously. Type "msconfig" in the "Run" window and press "Return." On the "Startup" tab, all the checked boxes are programs which start each time you boot Windows. Anything obviously out of place could be a keylogger. You can Google the names to help identify programs.

3 - Run updated anti-virus and anti-spyware programs and thoroughly scan your computer. These will often find keyloggers, but some trickier ones can circumvent the scans.
